The “Financing the Health MDGs: A Global Campaign for a Currency Transaction Levy” report is based on a meeting held on 13-14 July 2009 in Washington, DC. Organized and hosted jointly by the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, International Civil Society Support (ICSS) and RESULTS, the meeting aimed to develop strategies to increase support for, and the ultimate implementation of, a currency transaction levy (CTL) whose revenues would be used to expand and improve global health. The overall goal was to inaugurate a new civil society-led campaign for a CTL for health.
The “Strategy Meeting on a Global Campaign for a Currency Transaction Levy for Health” report is based on a meeting held 5 December 2009 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The gathering was organized and hosted by International Civil Society Support (ICSS) and builds on an initial meeting held in Washington, DC in the summer of 2009. As the meeting’s title implies, it aimed to broaden and deepen civil society engagement in a campaign for the implementation of a CTL, a particularly promising innovative financing mechanism that could raise billions of dollars for global health needs.
